Chapter 16

Trial By Fire

I walked with Scorpius’s family toward the hedge maze. I was so unbelievably nervous, not only was my best friend about to go into the maze but so was my boyfriend

“They’ll be okay, Rosie” his mom reassured me

“That doesn’t keep my heart from pounding of my chest” I said gnawing on my lip

“Sweetie the maze isn’t going to hurt them,” she said resting her hand on my shoulder

“It’s not the maze I’m worried about” I said my voice choking up

With every step I could feel fire coursing through my veins. I self-consciously began weaving fire between my fingers

“Isn’t playing with fire dangerous sweetie?” his mom asked

“What?” I said snapping out of my daze

“You are playing with fire”

“Huh… oh uh right” I said looking down at my hand before shaking the fire out

She looked at me with sympathy “Everything will be alright Rosie, you’ll see”

We finally made it to the maze. The nervous pit in my stomach got stronger, to where I almost got sick. I left his parents as I went to find Clove, Alice, and Fawn

“ROSIE!” Anna yelled as she ran over to me with Lily.

“What Anna?” I asked

“Elsa told me to give you this, she said you left it in the dorm” she said handing me my necklace with Whisp’s ring on it.

“I cannot believe I left this in my room” I said placing it around my neck

“You are your father’s daughter” Lily said

“You’re not wrong there”

“Hey Rosie” Albus said walking up to my small group “I got my invisibility cloak, like you asked”

“Thanks Al” I said

“Why do you need the invisibility cloak?” Alice asked

“Clove and I are going to follow Elsa into the maze” I said

“Are you a bloody *Crank?” Fawn asked

“We know for sure Sophietia is going to do something in that maze, during the last task” Clove said “If we don’t do something, Elsa, Scorpius, Kristoff, and Jennifer will all be dead before the day’s over”

“Isn’t that a bit of an exaggeration?” Fawn asked

I shook my head sadly “We have to go”

“I’m going with you then” Fawn said

“No” Clove and I said at the same time

“Elsa’s my friend too and there is nothing you can do to stop me from helping her” she retorted

“Fine,” I said “Stay close”

Alice, Albus, Anna, and Lily pulled Clove, Fawn, and myself into a group hug.

“Be careful, okay?” Alice said

“Okay” I said before the sound rang out that the task was about to start “We gotta go”

“Good Luck” Albus said

“We’re going to need it” Clove said before I threw the cloak over our shoulders and we ran towards the maze

We waited behind Elsa, until the maze opened and she ran inside, Clove, Fawn, and I close on her tail

“You guys back there?” Elsa asked as she ran

“Yeah Elise we’re here” I said suddenly glad I go on two mile runs every morning

“I’m scared” She said

“We are too” Clove said

“We can do this El” Fawn said

“Fawn? Your back there too?” Elsa asked

“Yeah Love, we’re going to get through this together” Fawn said

“Exactly” I said

We turned another corner and Elsa ran into another champion… the one that happened to be my boyfriend

“Elsa! Thank god I ran into you. Is the plan working?” Scorpius asked

I pulled the cloak off my shoulders “It is”

He sighed with relief

“Come on we better keep moving or else we’ll practically be **Griever bait” Fawn said

“Right” Scorpius said before the five of us took off in a run once again

“We need to find the cup before anyone else.” Elsa said “We don’t know if Sophietia did something to it or not.”

“Who wants to bet she did?” Clove said sarcastically

“That bitch is a bloody ***assbutt” Fawn said

“Even though I’m not sure what that means, I’m going to agree with Fawn” Clove said “I’m actually not sure what half of what she says means”

“Most people don’t” I said  “come on let’s go”

We all started running. The maze was full of dizzying twists and turns; none of us were sure where we were going.

‘Just keep running, just keep running’ I repeated over and over in my head

As we turned the corner, the bright and shining blue Tri-wizard cup came into our view. We stopped in front of it.

“Everyone take each others hands we’ll grab it together.” Elsa said grabbing hold of Clove’s hand, Clove took Fawn’s, Fawn took mine, and I took Scorpius’ hand.

“Ready Scorp?” Elsa asked, my boyfriend nodded “Okay, 1… 2… 3”

The two of them took hold of the cup at the same time.

The five of us weren’t taken to the start of the maze. Nor were we taken back to Hogwarts. We were in a creepy old churchyard surrounded by shadows.

“Welcome to my shadow world.” Sophietia said standing in front of a stone chair “And where you’ll help me become human again”

With those words the five of us we were all trapped by dark magic
